Chickens

Our chickens when they came across snow were not amused in anyway as you can see from the picture above.

Eventually they decided that it was either walking on the snow or sitting in their chicken house and get bored.

Our chicken run is fairly large of 6 x 12 metres - enough space for over 80 free range chickens - and we have only 8 (at the moment). When you consider the conditions most chickens are kept in commercially you realise that the River Cottage Chicken Out Campaign is so important. We need to raise chickens and other livestock humanly and with compassion, not just as units in a factory.

Chickens in the snow

Chickens out in the snow in February. They certainly did not like the snow at first. They appear to have got used to it.
