What is SEO? it is short for Search Engine Optimization (or Optimisation in the UK) and is sometimes called Search Engine Marketing. It is a range of methods and techniques used to help promote a website or blog in a search engine. Basically if you are not in pages 1-3 of a search engine for a phrase or "keyword" used by people who are searching for your content then you will probably not get many visitors to your site. The methods used to help position your website in the first few pages of a search engine can be legitimate (white hat) or not (sometimes called black hat SEO). The best way to get a website highly positioned is to create new, unique content and have many people put in links to your site from social bookmarking sites, blogs and their own websites - this is the "word of mouth" approach that is favoured by many search engines including Google.
